Guarding Against Identity Theft—Spiritually and Financially 🌟

This week marks International Fraud Awareness Week, a time to focus on protecting ourselves from fraud. While preparing a LinkedIn post on identity theft, I was reminded of a deeper kind of theft the enemy engages in—stealing our spiritual identity. He doesn't just aim to confuse us through external fraud but also by distorting who we are in Christ.

The enemy, like a thief, comes only to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). His tactics often lead us into an identity crisis, leaving us vulnerable to his lies.

But here’s the good news: our identity in Christ is unshakable! Colossians 3:3 reminds us, “For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.” No scheme or lie can erase who God says we are.

Just as we take steps to protect our personal information, we must also safeguard our spiritual identity. Here are three ways to stay vigilant:

  1. Be watchful: Just as we monitor our bank accounts, let’s also stay alert in our walk with God and guard our hearts (Proverbs 4:23).
  2. Recognize your worth: Your value isn't tied to the world's measures but to your identity as a child of God (John 1:12).
  3. Stand firm in truth: The enemy will try to deceive you, but God's Word declares your true identity. Don’t let him steal what’s already yours in Christ.

As we focus on fraud prevention this week, let’s remember that the most important identity to protect is our spiritual one. Stay rooted in His Word, guard your heart, and live confidently in the truth of who God created you to be.
